Botany is the scientific study of plants, or multi cellular organisms, that carry on photosynthesis.
The study of plants is important because they are a fundamental part of life on Earth, generating food, oxygen, fuel, medicine and fibers that allow other life forms to exist. The Father of Botany is philosopher Theophrastus. Born in 370 B.C. and was a student of Aristotle, who bequeathed to Theophrastus his writings, and designated him as his successor at his School.
He was a scholar, botanist, biologist, and physicist. The most important of his books are two large botanical treatises, Enquiry into Plants, and On the Causes of Plants, which constitute the first systemization of the botanical world and were major sources for botanical knowledge during antiquity and the Middle Ages.
Ancient Western culture from Bronze age and before lived in harmony with nature and the elements with
cunning wise folk, wics, witcas and druids who mastered the use and understanding of plant life and all their connotations including the spiritual and correspondences. It is in this light that I also share the plants and the seasons in my gardens, as not just a witch/druid of the old ways but a lover of old school philosophy 'the love of wisdom or known then as sophia'
adding spiritual and corresponding depth to the appreciated classification of plants and study of Botany."
