Basil seeds harvested, pretty much Spring to Autumn's end - ☽ ✧ - Δ - ✧ ☾ - Harvest of Basil seeds throughout the year, less so over the southern winter to mid winter. A Vase of flowering Basil in the centre of a dining table can calm family disputes in the craft and it has delicate white orchid like tiny flowers, that the bees like to buzz around. Once flowers bloom in full over Imbolc (Spring) I harvest the flowers for seeds just before they start to wilt. Continuing to harvest throughout the year until Winter or Samhain arrives for once winter arrives the old crone of winter slows the blooms down. Although I harvest these delicate whites, it's important to not harvest all at once, leaving most of the blooms for bees, butterflies and insects. Actually my ideal way of harvesting is to prune tall bushels of basil (grows over a meter high in my vegan soil without fertilizers commercial) as I go. From to to sides and alternating pruning from one bush to the other. Instead of drying these out straight away I then place the cut stems of basil leaves and flowers in a vase. The seeds naturally fall out when ready and I pick the leaves as I need daily for cooking and salads. You do need to keep an eye though for if flowers are left sitting for too long, the round black seeds fall into the vase water. Once dried, the hearts are salvaged for tinctures, balms, incense, spellwork and ritual. I have listed three different methods of drying and harvesting that I use. From chapter 'Botany A to D' Basil seed and or Leaf Harvest What is Needed;
Drying Directions 1; Leaf and seed
Drying Directions 2; Leaf and seed
Drying Directions 3; Seed (Leaves consumed as fresh)
